THE BRIGADIER GENERAL DONALD B. WAGNER, USAF, MSC PERPETUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND Who is Brig Gen Wagner? General Wagner was the first Air Force Medical Service Corps officer to achieve general officer (or flag) rank. He had a distinguished career as an MSC from August 1952 to October 1982. Among his special interests were the education and training of Medical Service Corps Officers. Widely respected, personable and a professional healthcare administrator, General Wagner remains active in MSC functions, the USAF MSC Association and Houston TX area community health care programs. What is it? The Wagner Scholarship Fund was chartered in Texas in 1982, as a non-profit corporation to provide scholarship grants to children of United States Air Force Medical Service Corps officers (Active, Reserve, Air National Guard, Retired) who are enrolled in graduate or undergraduate programs at an accredited educational institution of higher learning. How Does The Fund Raise Money? There are two primary ways the Fund raises money for scholarship grants. The Fund accepts donations at any time. In 2007, the tournament was hosted by Col Steve Wolfe and was held in October in conjunction with the Biennial USAF MSC Association’s Reunion. How is the Wagner Scholarship Corporation Chartered? The Fund is a Texas corporation formed exclusively for charitable, educational purposes, including formulating and directing efforts to obtain and furnish financial support for educational programs. All funds and contributions received by the corporation are used solely for furthering charitable student education purposes and never used for political activities. As such, the corporation is prohibited from any activities as described Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. How is the Fund Managed? Board members who administer the fund are volunteers. Board members work with volunteer financial experts to ensure funds are safely invested while bringing the most return on investment possible. How Large Are the Scholarship Grants? The Board strives to award three $1500 scholarship grants each year. What Degree Programs Are Covered by the Scholarship? Degrees in healthcare and allied health care are covered. Examples include science majors like biology or physics and allied healthcare related programs including business, accounting, healthcare management, etc. How Do I Apply For a Scholarship Grant?
